Unmistakably Italian, with the 70% Sangiovese offering middleweight tannins and a fruit backbone of red cherry flavour, fleshed out with the Merlot's blackberry note. Nicely balanced acidity and ripeness.

Deep ruby red, with friendly and uplifting aromas of plum, strawberry and spice. Very fruit biased and soft for a Cabernet, with a lush gluggability and moderate tannins, giving a rounded, juicy feel.

Very mature and from a cracking vintage.A bright nose of gamey friut with a perfumed edge follows onto the palate with added nuances of smoke, black pepper and very subtle oak.

This is a robust, full bodied wine packed with structure and fully capable of withstanding the test of time. This wine has powerful aromas of wild berry, leather and musk which will develop into liquorice and truffles with age. With fresh acidity and super-fine tannins it is well balanced and harmonious on the palate.

Domaine Arnoux holds prime vineyard sites in both Vosne-Romanee and Nuit St georges, and this is a fine example of their stunning wines. Aged for 18 months in oak, this wine shows generous aromas of cherries, dark fruits and spices. The palate is intense and lush with restrained black and red currant concentration and a long, seamless finish. - £47.00

Léoville was recognised as being second only to the four accepted first growths, Latour, Lafite, Margaux and Pontac (Haut-Brion).

The second wine of Léoville-Las-Cases is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. An attractive nose, with dense and dark fruits, and overall a good character. weighty, supple fruit on the palate, elegant but with substance. Ripe and fine tannin. Quite modern in style, the nose reveals delightful aromas of strawberries, cherries, exotic spices, earth, hay, forest floor and subtle menthol notes. It is soft and elegant in the mouth, and with good sweetness and ripeness of fruit.
